What Will I learn at CPR Certification Class?
Your CPR certification class is designed to give you the skills you need to save a life. You will learn how to tell if someone has had a cardiac arrest and the steps you must take and in what order. The guidelines have changed recently. Chest compression only CPR is now a widely used method of CPR suitable for all victims of cardiac arrest other than those caused by drowning or those in very young children and babies.
Chest compressions work by helping to pump oxygen around the body to the other vital organs including the brain. Generally speaking, the victim’s blood will have sufficient oxygen in it to keep the body supplied for at least five minutes provided the blood can reach the other organs. By doing chest compressions, quickly and at proper levels, you will help to keep the body responsive to a defibrillator the emergency services will bring with them. If an AED is available you should use it to try to shock the heart back to a normal rhythm but even if you are successful, the victim will need to be seen by a cardiac specialist to receive proper care.
